Asia has biggest drug trade

Asia has the largest drug factories for amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS), the biggest crop areas of opium, and the most active drug trafficking neworks, according to the International Narcotic Control Board (INCB).

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) hosted a meeting with the INCB at its Bangkok headquarters. Ambassadors from around 20 countries and about 100 ONCB members attended the event.

According to the annual INCB, East and Southeast Asia are home to the second largest area of illicit opium poppy cultivation in the world, representing one-fifth of the global total.

Easy to believe. With such corrupt police and politicians...many of whom are directly involved in this.

Education about the effects would be a start. Help strategies for those addicted or at risk due to addicts should be considered.
The most destructive drug by far in any society, and most definitely in Thai society is alcohol.
Incredibly narrow minded and hypocritical governments / research bodies should maybe scrutinise this ill before demonizing so called illicit drugs some more. If people want to or need to take something, they'll take it. Making them illegal just empowers criminals to supply it and get rich from it. sad
