Murder charge over teen student death

Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a 14-year-old teenager during a fight between rival school gangs last month, reports said on Thursday.

Wuttichai Ditpier, 20, fled to Koh Kood in Trat province after the death of Nattapong Hatsawong, 14, on Feb 21. Investigators tracked him down and took him into custody.

Police said that on Feb 21 four students from Prakanong Pittayalai School (PPS) got into a fight with eight students from Kaen Thong Uppathum School (KTUS), including the victim, at a mall parking lot in Khlong Toey district.

    Utterly spineless idiot who it seems will rot for many a year in a thai jail, and rightly so. And from a neutral perspective his kids will definitely benefit not learning anything from him if this incident is anything to go by.

    D1: Yes, you can train animals, and animal trainers often use violence. But you can't train a child that way. If you do, you end up turning the child into a violent animal.

    If we want kids to grow up to be honest, respectful, and open-hearted, then we need to model those behaviors in our own lives, most importantly in the way we treat our kids. People who beat their kids cause a predictable result: kids who think it's OK to beat their own kids, and also OK to beat up anyone else they have power over. It's not rocket science, and slowly, all over the world, parents and teachers are starting to get the message: Stop hitting kids.

    Yet another young Thai who had been taught that violence would solve his problems. Guess what? It didn't. And now, having "won" his fight, the young thug finds himself in jail, and rightly so. Society deserves to be protected from violent thugs: that's why we created laws.

    But let's not forget that his violent, obedience-demanding, cane-wielding parents and teachers are just as guilty as he is. How old was he the first time he was beaten? One year? Two? Six?

    No doubt we will now also get the usual chorus of Bangkok Post Klansmen suggesting their own brilliant form of "justice": even more violence. An eye for an eye til we're all blind.

    "I did it because I lost control of my emotions" - what an utterly pathetic excuse, and one we have seen more than once this week, with Mu Ham also apparently unable to control his emotions. No better than animals. But you can train an animal.
