About 50 critics of the lese majeste law held a solemn commemoration in front of the Criminal Court yesterday to mark Daranee Charncherngsilapakul's fifth year behind bars.
Daranee, aka Da Torpedo, from Phuket, was arrested on July 22, 2008 after making a speech at Sanam Luang that the court ruled defamed the monarchy.
The Criminal Court sentenced Daranee, 55, to 15 years under Section 112 of the Criminal Code in December 2011. The Appeal Court upheld the verdict in June this year. She is now in the process of appealing against the verdict to the Supreme Court.
