TAK : The Immigration Bureau will upgrade technology systems at the Mae Sot border checkpoint to help cope with an expected rise in transnational crime when the Asean Community is launched in 2015.
Tak immigration office chief Pongnakhon Nakhonsantiphap said the Mae Sot checkpoint, on the Myanmar border, will be the country's best-equipped border checkpoint after the refit.
The core responsibilities of the checkpoint will include transnational crime suppression, working with foreign security authorities, and compiling information about crimes for analysis, Pol Col Pongnakhon said. He said the checkpoint will be equipped with an immigration database called "Tibich", police and criminal databases named "Police" and "Crime", and the country's first high-tech BSC 6000 passport scanner.
