Police have arrested two men with about 3 million methamphetamine pills, in the second major drug haul in Nonthaburi province this week.
The arrest brought to 5.3 million the total number of ya ba pills seized, which police said would fetch as much as 1.6 billion baht on the street.
Kittisak Wanwong and Kanchit Wanadee were captured on Thursday at a rented house in Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi, said Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, the National police chief.
Police suspected that the two worked for an international drug network under Chaiwat Pornsakulpaisal, also known as Lt Col Yi Sae.
A preliminary investigation revealed that 7 million methamphetamine pills were smuggled from a neighbouring country through Loei and Phetchabun provinces to Bangkok, he said. The drugs seized on Thursday were part of the shipment.
The arrest followed the apprehension of two other suspects, Yingyong Thanawanwasupol and Anukul Manasanotham, who were caught during a drug rendezvous in Pa Kret district of Nonthaburi on Wednesday.
They were caught with 2.3 million ya ba pills.
Officers said that phone calls that came in to Mr Anukul's mobile phone while he was detained led the authorities to Mr Kittisak and Mr Kanchit.
