NEW YORKF - ive foreigners extradited by Thailand on Tuesday were hurried before a US federal judge early on Thursday (Thailand time) to be charged with plotting to smuggle 100kg of top-quality methamphetamine allegedly produced in North Korea.
The drugs were said to be produced in North Korea, and smuggled to Thailand for further distribution.
The five accused men allegedly bragged they had a tonne of meth stockpiled in Thailand. At least one earlier attempt to market the North Korean methamphetamine in Thailand and the Philippines was thwarted and the drugs seized, apparently one of the steps which led to arrests, mostly in Thailand.
