Yingluck denies approaching outsiders

The Pheu Thai Party had not yet offered any outsider a seat on the incoming government's cabinet, prime minister-in-waiting Yingluck Shinawatra said on Tuesday.

Ms Yingluck was responding to reports that her party had invited Vichit Surapongchai, executive chairman of the Siam Commercial Bank, to lead the economic team in the Pheu Thai-led coalition government.

..the next financial minister ..non-MPs might not truly understand the people's problems and the economic policies might not be sustainable."

Such condescending remarks by the outgoing FM shows utter disrespect for the next FM. His own eccomic policies have been dubious at best, disastrous in the long run for Thailand at worst. Luckily for us, people who come to power through an illegal coup does not seem to last.

The next FM may not have an image consultant, he/she may not be the owner of huge slabs of land in Sathorn, he/she may not be a person who demonize political opponents, he/she may not have such cozy relations with the establishment.. BUT .. thankfully for Thailand, there are many professionals in the financial industry who have much better qualification, experience and empathy for poor people than he has.

Elviajero D3 - Cabinet members do not have to be elected, they are appointed to advise the PM. They provide advice and the PM / Parliament create laws and programs. Look at the USA, the cabinet there is entirely un-elected individuals, some with political experience, some with work / education expertise. A smart leader chooses people who are knowledgeable advisers, not MPs who are often nothing more than used car salesmen seeking favors.

Hypocrisy (d9). "#3, elviajero, who's constitution is it? the peoples or the democrats/military/judiciary's?"

The 1997 and 2007 constitutions only require that the Prime Minister be appointed from the House of Representatives. The rest of the Council of Ministers do not have this condition.

So the answer to your question is both.

#7, you just forgot an important thing for Yingluck. "Inexperienced outsider, to be party's #1 list and "elected by the Thai people"... But i admit that it can be not important for an adept of dictatorship.

#1, at least, Yingluck is not the clone of a pro-dictatorship goat. Thanks again to make us laugh with your highly consistent aphorisms.

#3, elviajero, who's constitution is it? the peoples or the democrats/military/judiciary's?

    Your opinion please.

Out going Ministers should learn to keep their mouth shut.

  • Discussion 7 : 26/07/2011 at 08:04 PM7

Are there qualified people in PT? "T" brought in his sister - an inexperienced outsider, to be party's #1 list and PM candidate.

'Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said a meeting of the party's executive has passed a resolution giving the authority to select the new speaker of the House of Representatives to Ms Yingluck and party leader Yongyuth Wichaidit.'

Meaning Thaksin and Yongyuth, more than likely just Thaksin. Narrowing important decisions down to 2 people is disturbingly fascist. What happened to democracy within the UDD/PTP ?
