About 20 members of a factory labour union in Rangsit area on Wednesday submitted a letter to Pheu Thai leader Yongyuth Wichaidit, demanding the party to push ahead with its 300 baht daily minimum wage policy.

The letter was received by Pheu Thai secretary general Jarupong Ruangsuwan.Saneh Chumharuethai, leader of the workers, said all 25,000 members of the Rangsit labour union had passed a resolution supporting the Pheu Thai Party’s policy for a nationwide rise in the daily minimum wage to 300 baht.Mr Saneh said Pheu Thai should quickly implement the promised policy to improve the living standard of workers. The government must also oversee prices of consumer goods to prevent them from increasing without justification, he said. However, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) chairman Yuthapong Jiraprapapong said, the 300 baht daily minimum wage policy would have a severe negative impact on the industrial sector, particularly small and medium enterprises.Mr Yuthapong suggested the government gradually increase the daily minimum wage...

I think all this Thais who gave advise about economic or blame someone else, but themselve. They wanted more profit. Well anything sold in USA that made in Thailand, so they made 10time profit. of their product. They are full of stupid theory. Maybe they need to go back to school or Yale University here in USA. Well $300 per month or 9,000 bath is extremly poor and I could not see how people live on minimum wage. I am Thais and so sick about it. If I live in Thailand and 150,000bath a month and live very well to enjoy life. Poor people could not read English and I came from Northeast. I knew many American co., Eupean, and Japan co. and they could pay Thais well. Minimwage in USA is 48,224bath and consider very poor or supper poor. Thai Industry must have better research, equipment to produce more product.

,,, yes, inflation would more than likely happen. Funny how basic economic rules are not understood by those demanding the pay rise immediately, and the later outcome.

What happens whe factories lay off workers the increased wages cut deeply into their profits? Will the red shirts mark to demand that the government force the factories to rehire them? This should be interesting ... and expensive for us all in the long run.

With criticism from all experts and business leaders, implementing the 300 baht wage rate is going to be tough. However it is unlikely that Yingluck will have a big problem back tracking on this promise. After all much of the labor force is from the North or North East of Thailand. This is also the stronghold of Thaksin and the reds. All Yingluck has to do is give some of the red leaders a good ministerial posting. The red leaders will then make sure that the disgruntled labor does not get too noisy or agitated about no wage hike. The red movement can enforce discipline, they have seasoned police and military guys (both present and past) on their side.

Rising daily wages now will send inflation spiralling out of control and its the poor workers who will suffer most as the rich will feel the impact of high prices less. YL should form the government first, get the reconsilation move going and putting back investors confidence. She should look into cutting corporate tax over 2 year period, together with wages increase over 2 year period. What she need to do now is find how to reduce inflation across the country, that will take at least 100 days and we can latter see if its successful before starting wage increase.
