PM vows to protect inner Bangkok

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on said Monday the Flood Relief Operations Centre (Froc) will do its best to protect inner Bangkok from flooding and push for quicker drainage of the water.

She expressed he belief that after today's high tide peak of 2.5 metres above mean sea level, the  water in the  canals would drop and the flood would begoine draining more quickly into the sea through the eastern and western floodways.

The government would assess the flood situation on a daily basis after the high tide.

D2 & D3 Khun geoffo & Khun bkkfarang, birds of a feather, the PM said Froc would do its best, whatever that's worth. The word "vow" is used by the BP reporters writing the article.

Even if inner Bangkok is protected there is an increasing problem with the cleanliness of the tap water which we use for showering even if we have a filter for drinking purposes. It's getting rather smelly (especially today) and besides bacteria it's also full of chemicals.

There is also the obvious problem with drinking water. I don't believe that everyone went out to buy a filtering machine. There must already be people boiling their own water but this doesn't remove the dangerous chemicals that have been added. Chlorine and most other chemicals are far worse for the body when it's been boiled. The government recommended leaving water in a bowl for an hour or two but who can really bothered to do this before taking a shower or making tea.

And what are all the people going to do when they get back to Bangkok but the floods still to come and without much food in the shops.

Khun Geoffo #2: Thaksin vowed uncountable times to stay away from politics and he never did. This should be an indicator how this word is (mis)used in the Shinawatra clan.

Someone should show her the meaning of "vow"

Vow (verb) to solemnly promise to do a specified thing; eg -she vowed her government would not tolerate a repeat of the flooding anywhere. This vow has no meaning as she cannot control nature.

Now, if she said she solemnly vows not to let any political group purloin donations again under threat of life imprisonment for leaders found guilty- now, that is a vow at least with some teeth.

My suggestions for the source of additional funding to support the long range flood program:
    1) Eliminate the ISOC, this is an 8 billion baht per year carry over from the Junta that is not needed.
    2) Scrap all discussions of submarines, aircraft carriers, advanced jet fighters, etc and focus on transport helicopters and shallow water capable patrol boats.
    3) Completely eliminate the Forest Ministry. They have presided over the deforestation of the entire country and are partly to blame for the floods. The Interior Ministry can take over.
    4) Combine all local and national water control groups into one and shed the excess.
    5) Beef up the enforcement of business tax collection. In Bangkok alone at least 40% or more of small businesses are proud to report they never pay tax. Time to be responsible citizens.
Good luck Khun PM, you have a tough task ahead under normal circumstances, but the large egos you have to deal with will continue to waste your and the country's time with their childish games.
