Pongsapat lead widens to 10 points over rival

The Democrat Party will tackle the flagging popularity of its Bangkok governor election candidate Sukhumbhand Paribatra by emphasising seven core policies aimed at boosting quality of life.

MR Sukhumbhand, who is seeking a second term as city governor, is apparently losing ground with the latest opinion poll showing he was trailing his main rival, Pongsapat Pongcharoen of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, by 10 points.

Latest results show Pol Gen Pongsapat commanding 43.1% of voter support, with Mr Sukhumbhand on 33.1%

patchar (#18): Granted that there's still nearly a month to go but, with turnout unlikely to be much over 60%, most of those undecideds (only 14% in the latest poll that reports them) probably won't vote. That said, I fault ABAC for not measuring/reporting the undecideds in their poll.

Mi1231; We don't want empty promises, we want results, and Mr. Sukhumbhand already has shown us his many achievements the past 4 years inspite of so many attempts to block his efforts. He did a very good job before and has more great projects to improve the quality of life for Bangkok residents. Most of all he is an honest and hard working person who does not do gimmicks.

What is important is the undecided and what region(s) was the poll taken? If you ask me, I am not going to tell anybody who is my candidate even on the election day. Isn't it dangerous to give your honest opinion before you answer?

The Democrat Party fails to define what it stands for beyond it being a bastion and defender of the elite class. What has the Democrat party done to convince the electorate that it can speak for and make the lives of the majority of Thais better. Beyond being the anti-Thaksin party, what is the Democrat party?
US political parties and candidates always jockey to be the party that can help the masses rise and improve their lives. Even the Republican party claims that its tax cuts for the reach would stimulate the economy to better the lives of the people below. There is nothing that I can associate the Thai Democrat Party with.

Interesting poll results. One has Pongsapad leading by a full 10%, another by just over 5%, the third by 3.5% and the last by only 0.3%. Pongsapad is clearly is in the lead, but I wonder what the Abac poll thought it was doing by not taking into account undecided voters.

Posters ask how the voters could chose a policeman, since the Thai police are notoriously corrupt. Well, Thaksin was once a policeman and that didn't stop people from electing him. The Dems definitely are running a weak campaign and shouldn't be surprised if they lose. They need to find out what they are doing wrong. Otherwise, they are history.
