Dems fret over Pheu Thai gains

Sukhumbhand, party told to lift their game

The large vote gains made by the Pheu Thai Party in the Bangkok governor election are a sign the Democrats have much more work to do, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva says.

Bangkok governor-elect Sukhumbhand Paribatra gives a thumbs up to voters as he and key Democrat figures take a city tour to thank Bangkok residents for their votes in Sunday’s election. Disc 19 - "Bangkok is still the same notorious for traffic congestion, pollution, drugs, smelly garbage, inefficient administration, empty talks by the governors, political confrontations, corruptions, and many other bad things".

    The voters in their wisdom did re-elect the governor so obviously they don't mind those small inconveniences and won't expect any change for the next 4 years.

    @majority d19 and 20.

    I agree, we should probably not expect much from the democrat candidate for the next four years. However, it still beats not expecting much from a PTP candidate, while the PTP borrows trillions (used to be billions), sends the money to Dubai, and leaves the tax payers to pay the loans back.

    In short, I'd rather have a staff that does nothing at all, than a staff that does nothing but steal from me!

    To be more responsible and to act in a more mature way, can anyone here tell us what governor Sukhumbhand and the DEM pledged in their previous election campaign, and what of those pledges they had actually delivered and what they did not deliver in their past 4 years as the governor and the rulers of Bangkok?

    dss 16 you are fully aware the only stronghold pt have is in the north,all other major cities,bangok,pattaya and phuket,the very heart of the industries and province support the DP,the vote buying in the north produced a unusally high turn out,which has never been investigated

    Diss 5
    No they would probably discredit the party right before the election using the DSI then proceed to take aim at the governor for the BTS and finally hope they can make anything stick in order to take him out of power so they can take over .

    Abhisit is right to warn. Sukhumbpand will need to do better. The PM has already said she thinks like her brother. Watch out Dems: the struggle will not be easy and the fight may be dirty.

    RE: D8 Spiceman. The PT has done more for the poor than any party, please tell me any party that tried to do more? I do not like the populist policies anymore than you do and I see whre it will lead as it has in the USA and Europe, but the DP and PP policies are the exact same. They were just late to the game. TS might be the biggest crook in the world, but he is a better politician than the rest and that is indisputable.

    I commend AV and the DEM's instead of celebrating a good win, they acknowleged the gains by the PTP in Bangkok and concede the hard road ahead, unlike DEM supporters posting after the election of the landslide victory?? Now to see if Sukhumbhand's second term is more beneficial to Bangkok than his first, maybe only if AV and the DEM's properly support him, which was lacking at the start of the campaign.

    The Democrats are a political party. They act like a typical political party, win or lose. Press and forum commentators add the rest as speculation. Think about that.
