PHUKET - Local authorities will force the owners of several luxury residences currently under construction to dismantle parts of the structures to meet building limits, Phuket governor Noraphat Plodthong said on Wednesday.

The move follows complaints on social media that the new buildings were blocking the view of the seaside.

The governor said that officials concerned had already checked regulations related to residential construction and found that building height in the area is capped at six metres.

The Rawai municipal office would thus tell the owners to halt the construction and reduce the height of the buildings to six metres, he said.

The governor was referring to four residential structures on a one-rai land plot facing the Andaman Sea. The plot is on a bend of the road on Krathing headland leading to Ao Sen bay in tambon Rawai of Muang district.

The plot's owners were identified as Ong-art Thongphetburapha and Thadnat Chanthan. Each resort house was designed to have two bedrooms, and two of the houses will have private swimming pools. They were scheduled for completion in April next year.

Local authorities also found that the houses were expanded beyond the designs in the permits that were issued, and would block 94% of the local sea view. The expansion also left the structures too close to the adjacent road. Parts of them would be dismantled to conform with minimum legal clearance from the road.
