The Meteorological Department has told people living in the North and the Northeast to brace themselves for heavy rain between June 5 and 9

The department said on Saturday that the lower pressure cell now covers the Gulf of Tonkin and upper Vietnam, while the southwest monsoon remains over the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand during June 5-10.

More rain and isolated heavy rain are likely in the North and the Northeast during this period, said the department.

It warned people in the North and the Northeast to brace themselves for heavy downpours and accumulated rain between June 5 and June 9.

In Lampang, run-off, triggered by overnight heavy rain, inundated tambon Wang Sai in Wang Nua district late Friday night.

Heavy downpours resulted in mountain run-off flooding more than 20 houses and farmland at Ban Namlong village in tambon Wang Sai. Floodwater rose to one metre in the village. Local residents were caught off-guard by the sudden flood as they had not yet moved their belongings and animals to higher areas.

Pairat Pompai, assistant  Wang Nua district chief, led a team of officials to inspect flood-hit areas in tambon Wang Sai on Saturday. Floodwater gradually receded after pumps were used.
