UBON RATCHATHANI -- An old two-storey wooden building at a school in Warin Chamrap district of this northeastern province was destroyed by a fire early Tuesday, leaving many students there without classrooms or study materials.
About 10 fire engines and crews from Tambon That Municipality, Tambon Sikhai Municipality and Ubon Ratchathani University rushed to Ban Don Klang School in tambon That after the fire was reported about 4.20am, Matichon Online reported.
It took them about an hour to put out the fire, but by then two-storey school building had burned down. All teaching and sports equipment and computers in the building were also destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said they saw the fire start on the second floor of the building, which was built in 1975. An electrical short-circuit was believed to be the cause. The flames spread quickly through the 41-year-old building, which was full of inflammable materials.
Police said an investigation would establish the cause of the fire.
The school's director, Suriya Phonhan, said the building housed six classrooms was also used to store sports equipment and some computers.
