CHIANG MAI - A 34-year-old woman died in a hail of bullets and her male friend was wounded when two gunmen opened fire on them in broad daylight at a garage where they worked in San Sai district on Tuesday.
The attack took place at Kij Charoenyont garage around noon in tambon Nong Harn, Maejo police said.
Police called to the scene found the body of a woman, identified as Ketsuda Saikhiew, 34, lying in a pool of blood. She had multiple gunshot wounds to her body.
The woman’s friend, who was not named by police, was wounded in his right wrist. Twelve spent cartridges were found scattered over the area, Thai media reported on Tuesday.
Witnesses told police the murdered woman and the man were working at the garage when two men arrived on a motorcycle, produced guns from a fertiliser sack they were carrying, and fired repeated shots at the woman.
The two killers were both wearing closed-face crash helmets. They fled towards downtown Chiang Mai.
Police set up road checkpoints but the killers made good their escape. Investigators were questioning witnesses and friends and examining footage of closed-circuit television cameras in a bid to track down the gunmen and ascertain the motive. The investigation was continuing.
