CHON BURI - A fierce fire destroyed a car tyre factory in Ban Bung district in the early hours of Friday, causing at least 30 million baht in damage. No injuries were reported.
About 10 fire trucks and crews fought the blaze at Green Tyre Rubber Co, which covers 7-rai in tambon Khlong Kiew of Ban Bung district, police said. The fire was reported around 1.30am on Friday.
Kee, a Cambodian worker, said he was sleeping in the employees' living quarters and was awoken by 2 or 3 loud bangs. He saw flames quickly engulfing the factory, owned by Chinese company Jiantai, Thai media reported.
The fire spread quickly as strong winds fanned flames, fuelled by piles of old and new car tyres. It took firemen more than three hours to control the blaze. Damage was estimated at 30 million baht or more.
Police were investigating.
