SA KAEO -- A fire in block D at Rong Kluea market in the border town of Aranyaprathet early on Monday destroyed six shops and the goods inside them, with damage estimated at 10 million baht.

Rescue units of a local charity foundation and fire engines of the Aranyaprathet, Tambon Parai and Tambon Ban Dan municipalities were called to the scene after the fire was reported about 1.10am.

The blaze was brought under control  about two hours later.  Six shops in Block D of the old section of Rong Kluea market and goods they contined, mostly used clothes, were destroyed.  There were no casualties.

The damage was initially estimated at 10 million baht.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire, which was initially attributed to a electrical short circuit. The Cambodian lessees of shops in Block D had returned to their homes in Cambodia on Sunday night.

Long Ruang, 36, the owner of shop D35, which was burned down,  said she had nothing left as this was the second fire. After the first fire on Sept 9, 2014, she had to borrow money to restock  the business and had recently added a substantial amount of new stock, which had all gone in the fire.
