The new outer ring road expressway linking Sirat to western Bangkok is nearly complete and is expected to open in August, the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) has announced.

Exat executives and representatives of the 30-year expressway concessionaire and co-investor Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM) made an inspection trip of the new 16.7-kilometre-long link on Wednesday.

The 32-billion-baht project, intended to relieve traffic congestion in western Bangkok, was 98% completed and would be opened in August, Exat governor Narong Gieddech announced after the visit.

The six-lane elevated expressway, known as the Sirat-Bangkok Outer Ring Road, starts from the Sirat Expressway north of the Mor Chit 2 bus terminal. It then runs above the western railway in parallel with Boromratchonnanee Road, crosses the Chao Phraya River near Rama VI Bridge and connects with Bangkok's western outer ring road.

The new link has ramps connecting the ring road with Rachaphruek, Boromratchonnanee, Charan Sanit Wong and Kamphaeng Phet 2 roads.
