Raid nets 100 illegal migrant workers in Tak

TAK - About 100 Myanmar labourers and four Thais were arrested on Friday during a raid on a house and living quarters in Phop Phra district housing over 300 migrant people.

Police, soldiers and immigration officials, led by Phop Phra district chief Prasong La-on, stormed the big house and living quarters in tambon Chong Khaep on Mae Sot-Umphang Road. They found about Myanmar nationals, adults and children, living there.

When their documents were examined, 60 of them had no work permits and about 50 others had expired  permits . 

Four Thais, three men and one woman, were arrested for sheltering illegal migrants - Chan Kanha, 62, Thanom Kanha, 55, Anan Sinsopha, 60 and Mrs Chusri Sinsopha, 49. The four own the land where the living quarters were built.

Police investigators said migrant workers staying there were sent to work as hired-hands on farms in several villages.

The raid followed a complaint the compound was housing many illegal migrant workers.
