Van crash injures 10 in Korat

NAKHON RATCHASIMA -- Ten construction workers were injured, three of them seriously, when a van they were travelling in crashed into a concrete pillar of a pedestrian bridge in Muang district early Monday.

Pol Lt Col Prayut Phaepru, chief investigator of Pho Klang police station, said the accident occurred about 2.30am at kilometre marker 136 on the Mittraphap Highway in tambon Khok Kruat.

The Udon Thani-registered van, driven by Churit Phuwalai, 51, was taking 10 construction workers from Bangkok to Kalasin.

Police said the van was travelling around 100 kilometres per hour in heavy rain when it ran into the road median strip and then into a concrete support pillar of a pedestrian overpass.

All 10 workers were injured, three of them seriously.  They were admitted to Thepparat Hospital in the provincial town.
