BURI RAM: A woman was critically injured after jumping onto the tracks and being run over by a train at the Buri Ram station on Saturday.

Closed-circuit footage showed the woman jumping on the tracks in front of the approaching No. 21 Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani express train at noon.

The woman, in her 40s, lost both legs but still had vital signs and was taken to Buri Ram Hospital where she immediately had surgery.

The footage showed the woman arriving at the station on a motorcycle with a Buri Ram licence plate and walking to the platform to wait for trains like other passengers.

Bunchong Chanthorn, a train station warden, said police and transport authorities had been contacted to identify her. Matichon Online reported that the woman carried no ID.

Police plan to investigate the motive further since the footage showed the woman had bought three bags of noodles and left them near a platform column. Police said they believed a suicidal person was unlikely to buy food to take back home.

Medical staff tend to the badly injured woman after she jumped in front of a train in Buri Ram on Saturday.
