One killed, three injured in car, trailer collision

SURIN -- A 64-year-old woman was killed and three other people injured in a collision between a car and an 18-wheeled trailer in Prasat district late Saturday night, police said.

The accident occurred at about 11.20pm at an intersectin to Ban Yang in tambon Kang-aen on Highway 24.

Police learned from an investigation that the accident occurred a white Toyota Altis driven by Kanyapak Nanthasopha, 24, an employee of the State Railway of Thailand, was trying to take over a pick-up truck when it collided head-on with the trailer which was transporting charcoal from Chong Chom market in Kap Choeng district to Bang Bon area in Bangkok.

The car was badly damaged, while trailer skidded off the road.

In the car, Ms Kayapak, the driver, was seriously injured.  Her mother, Chalaem Nanthasopha, 64, who was sitting with her on the front seat, was killed.

Two other people on the back seat -- Sonthaya Nanthasopha, 39, and Somwon Yodkan, 39 -- were injured.

The injured were admitted to Prasat Hospital.  All of the passengers in the car were from Saraburi's Kaeng Khoi district.

Bamrungsak Tesacha, 58, the trailer's driver, was not hurt.
