Van hits trailer, killing 1, injuring 8

PATHUM THANI -- A passenger van rammed into the rear of a 22-wheel trailer in Sam Khok district early Sunday, killing one and injuring eight, police said.

Pol Capt Krisana Kamkangwan, deputy chief investigator of Sam Khok police, said the accident occurred at about 3.55am on Bang Pa-in - Bang Bua Thong ring road when the van ran into the rear of the trailer running in front of it.

Monsawan Homying, 49, the van driver, said he was hired to take eight passengers from Nonthaburi to Phichit province for  merit-making. On the way back, while he was bending over to pick up something he lost control of the van which slammed into the rear of the trailer.

Thanetphol Tiengchit, 62, a friend accompanying Mr Monsawan in the trip and sitting on the left front seat, was killed.

The eight passengers were injured. They were admitted to Pathum Thani Hospital.
