Suvarnabhumi airport offers free parking for 5 days

Free parking will be on offer for travellers using Suvarnabhumi airport to fly off on holiday for the forthcoming break which begins on Saturday.

The airport expects more travellers to go abroad or take flights to local destinations when the country is on a five-day break from Saturday to Wednesday.

Suvarnbhumi will allocate a long-term parking area at Zone C for free parking to relieve congestion of other parking areas at the airport.

The free service at Zone C starts from 0.01am on Saturday to midnight of Wednesday, Suvarnabhumi general manager Sirote Duangratana said on Thursday.

It can handle 718 vehicles and the airport will provide special shuttle buses to take those leaving their cars at the location to the terminal, he added.

Suvarnabhumi charges 20 baht an hour for a driver to use the long-term parking lots. Anybody parking a car there more than seven hours pays 140 baht.

Don Mueang airport, which has less space, will provide extra chairs for travellers on the fourth floor to relieve congestion inside its terminals.

The airport has contacted police at Don Muang and Vibhavadi police stations to control traffic during the long weekend, Don Mueang general manager Phet Chan-charoen said.

He warned passengers using Don Mueang to get to the airport earlier due to possible traffic congestion, especially from Friday to Sunday.

Government and state enterprise offices will close from Saturday to Wednesday as the government wants to use the long holiday to boost tourism. Most private firms, the stock market and banks close until Tuesday.

Tuesday is Asarnha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day falls on Wednesday.
