SYDNEY - A flight from Sydney to Thailand was diverted to Indonesia to offload six rowdy passengers, the airline said on Thursday.

Jetstar Flight JQ27 to Phuket made an unscheduled landing in Bali on Wednesday night after six passengers travelling together became "extremely disruptive among themselves'' and refused requests from the crew, the Australian budget airline said in a statement.

The passengers were handed over to Indonesian police at Denpasar Airport, and the flight then continued  on to Phuket.

"The other customers on board supported the decision to offload the group in Bali and thanked the crew,'' the statement said.

The airline said it took safety and security seriously and would not tolerate disruptive behaviour by passengers.

The airline did not disclose the genders or other details of the six passengers. It did not detail their behaviour.
