NAKHON RATCHASIMA: All six people on board a pickup truck, including two children and a baby, were killed instantly when their vehicle lost control and crashed head-on into a six-wheel truck in Sida district on Saturday.

The incident occurred at kilometre maker 241 on the Mittraparb-Nong Khai Road in tambon Sammuang around noon, said Pol Capt Panyot Peerayotaris, a duty officer at the Sida police station.

Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find the black pickup with its cab completely crushed from the impact of the collision with the six-wheeler.

The driver and five passengers were killed and their bodies trapped in the wreckage of the pickup, which had Bangkok licence plates. Among the dead were two children and an infant.

Truck driver Wisant Buakong, who was injured in the crash, told police that he saw the pickup travelling at high speed in the right lane on the other side of the road before it lost control, causing it to plunge into the ditch dividing the road. It then flew out and collided head-on with his truck.

Police believed the driver of the pickp might have fallen asleep at the wheel. They are still investigating to establish the exact cause of the crash.
