SA KAEO - A large amount of seized counterfeit and pirated goods, claimed to be worth about 50 million baht if genuine, were destroyed at Aranyaprathet district’s customs checkpoint on Monday.

Customs Department chief Kulit Sombatsiri said they had been kept as evidence in court cases that were now concluded, so were no longer needed.

The goods included fake designer-brand handbags, watches, shoes, auto parts, CDs, DVDs, and cosmetics. Seized during raids throughout the country, they were broken, torn up, ripped, cut up, crushed and emptied out.

Pol Col Thaneewat Tiangpitak, deputy chief of Sa Kaeo police, said the imitation goods had to be destroyed to ensure they did not re-enter the market or possibly be sent to other countries.

Sa Kaeo governor Pakkharathorn Thianchai was also at the ceremony.
