PATHUM THANI -- A two-storey townhouse in Lam Luk Ka district subsided, its walls cracked and in danger of collapse, on Tuesday night, reports said.

District officials called to inspect townhouse No.59/197 in Soi 6 of  in tambon Khu Khot found the sunken building leaning at a 15 degree angle, with cracks over the entire structure.

District chief Dorn Samitakasetrin said the wall behind the towhouse had crumbled and it seemed the entire building might soon collapse.

Officials from Lam Sam Kaew Municipality cordoned off the house with a rope.  Residents were advised that if they saw any other houses subsiding or looking as if they might collapse they should immediately report it to the provincial public works office.

Mr Dorn said the municipality was unable to take any action to help the residents as the property still belonged to the bank.  A court order was needed, he added.

Grp Capt Boonsong Juiklom (retired), who lives nearby in house No.59/210 in Soi 6, said there were 14 townhouses in the estate and four of them had sunk and could not be lived in. The buyers had filed lawsuits against the project developer and the cases were still with the prosecutors.
