When the new Purple Line officially opens next month, commuters will have two choices for connecting with the underground MRT, both of which will take around seven minutes.

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will have 15 air-conditioned buses providing a free service between Tao Pun station, the final stop of the Purple Line from Bang Yai, to Bang Sue station of the MRT, or the Blue Line.

The buses connecting the two mass transit routes will leave every eight minutes during normal hours and every six minutes during rush hours, and the 1km trip will take between seven and 12 minutes depending on traffic.

Trains are another alternative for the connection.

Purple Line passengers have to alight at Bang Son station and take the air-conditioned shuttle train provided by the State Railway of Thailand to Bang Sue to catch the MRT.

The SRT train will leave every 15 minutes only from Monday to Saturday between 6.30am and 9.30am and again between 4.30pm and 8pm in a trip taking seven minutes.

The shuttle service will begin on Aug 6, the day that the Purple Line will be officially opened, the Mass Rapid Authority of Thailand said on Wednesday.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith tried the planned shuttle service on Wednesday and promised there would be enough buses and trains to link commuters using the Purple Line and the MRT.
