CHON BURI — Around 40 young Kuwaiti nationals were arrested and 26 illegally modified motorcycles seized during a police operation against street racing in Pattaya city early on Friday morning.

The Kuwaiti tourists, aged 18-25, were rounded up by team of 50 police and police volunteers led by Pol Maj Piyapong Ensarn, Pattaya tourist police inspector.

The seized bikes were illegally modified for racing. There were also no proper documents for several bikes the tourists had rented.

The Kuwaitis were charged with reckless driving. Owners of the bikes they rented would be asked to produce necessary documents for the return of their bikes, police said. Legal action would be taken against owners who failed to produce proper papers. All modified exhaust pipes would be destroyed.

The arrests followed complaints foreign youths were racing excessively loud motorcycles on public roads at night, causing a public nuisance.
