NAKHON PHANOM - A son of the provincial administration organisation (PAO) chief has been arrested for collusion in the fatal shooting of a rival four months ago.

Sakrawit Nitipote, 25, was arrested at his house Pla Pak district of this northeastern province on Friday.

The suspect has been charged with colluding in murder, illegal possession of weapons and carrying them in a public area, said Pol Maj Gen Yanyong Vet-osod, chief investigator at the Provincial Police Region 4.

His arrest follows the death of Pollawit Inthong, 26, who was gunned down on a road in tambon Pla Pak on the night of March 9 this year. They had a long-running rivalry.

Investigators concluded that Mr Sakrawit and another man,  Manas Chantairat, 27, were involved in the shooting, Pol Maj Gen Yanyong said.

Pol Maj Gen Yanyong said Mr Sakrawit has a previous conviction for rape and was sentenced to jail for three years. After his release from the prison he was involved in several assault cases in Nakhon Phanom,  before being arrested for the murder of Pollawit, the chief investigator said.

The suspect, whose father is chairman of the Nakhon Phanom PAO Somchob Nitipote, denied the  charges. He was held in police custody for legal action. Police were hunting down Mr Manas.
