Praise for officer over traffic ticket

A traffic police officer who issued a ticket to a son of national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda for breaking a traffic regulation should be praised for enforcing the law without discrimination, deputy police spokesman Pol Col Krisana Pattanacharoen said on Sunday.

Pol Col Krisana was referring to Pol Snr Sgt Maj Somboon Krua-thi, of Phayathai police station, who issued the ticket to Chaithat Chaijinda, the youngest son of Pol Gen Chakthip, for driving in a bus lane.

The spokesman said the police chief, on learning of his son's traffic violation, went to the police station and paid the fine for his son by himself.

Pol Col Krisana said this was a show of respect for the law. "Pol Snr Sgt Maj Somboon deserves praise for not being discriminatory, not holding to double standards," he added.

This should serve as a precedent to all policemen regarding law enforcement, he said.

The spokesman said the police chief himself on holidays drives alone in his car from place to place without having a motorcade, like ordinary people.
