Bangkok's busiest roads revealed

Vibhavadi Rangsit Road is the busiest thoroughfare in Bangkok, used by more than 150,000 vehicles each day, according to City Hall's Traffic and Transport Department.

Figures released by the department reveal that Vibhavadi Rangsit Road (Din Daeng-National Memorial) has the highest volume of traffic with 158,711 vehicles per day on average.

It is followed by Rama II Road (Dao Khanong-Samae Dam) with 144,958 vehicles per day; Chaeng Watthana (Laksi-Khlong Prapa) with 110,188 and Ngam Wong Wan (Kasetsat intersection-Phong Phet intersection) with 94,820 vehicles.

Meanwhile, Si Nakharin (Lam Sali intersection-Paradise) has 75,324 vehicles per day; Phahon Yothin (Victory Monument-Don Muang Air Force base) 60,237; and Ram Intra (Wong Wian Bang Khen-BMA boundary) 55,768.

Vibhavadi Rangsit attracts heavy traffic because it is the gateway to the North and Northeast. Construction of the Green Line (Mor Chit-Saphan Mai-Khu Khot) and Red Line (Bang Sue-Rangsit) rail route is adding to traffic woes, as many motorists now strive to avoid Phahon Yothin Road and use Vibhavadi Rangsit instead.

Figures released by the BMA and the government reveal that in 2015 the average speed of vehicles in Bangkok was 15kph in the mornings and 22kph in the evenings.
