Drug couriers arrested, speed pills, 11kg of ‘ya ice’ seized

Two Thai men and a young Lao woman were arrested at a Bangkok hotel and 11 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and 100,000 speed pills seized during a search of their vehicle and apartment room in the early hours of Tuesday.

Anuwat Wonglakhon, 37 Patcharapong Kaewthui, 22 and Duen Singharat, 21, a Lao national, were detained after police searched their pickup truck at a hotel on Sukhumvit Road in Bang Na district around 1am on Tuesday.

They found 4,000  methamphetamine pills, two semi-automatic pistols, 36 rounds of ammunition and seven mobile phones inside the vehicle.

The suspects had arrived at the venue to deliver the drugs to a customer, said Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, who announced the arrests  at a media briefing at Samsen police station on Tuesday.

The suspects were asked to take the officers to their apartment room at Soi Nakniwas 48 in Lat Phrao area where 96,000 more methamphetamine pills and 11kg of crystal methamphetamine, known as ya ice, were found inside a travel bag inside the room. 

Mr Anuwat confessed he had been paid 300,000 baht a trip to deliver illicit drugs to customers in Bangkok, according to police. He said he had made two previous deliveries before being arrested, Thai media reported.

The suspects were held in police custody on charges of illegal possession of illicit drugs with intent to sell and illegal possession of firearms and carrying them in a public area without a permit.
