NAKHON RATCHASIMA - A tanker truck hauling eight tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned in Pak Thong Chai district on Friday, leaking the contents onto the road and temporarily halting traffic.

The 10-wheel tanker truck overturned at kilometre makers 45-46 on Sikhiu-Chok Chai Road in tambon Khok Thai, said Pol Maj Nakhon Thanomsap, a duty officer at Pak Thong Chai police station.  The incident was reported around 9am on Friday.

The accident blocked traffic on both Chok Chai-inbound lanes. The tank ruptured and leaked LPG  onto the road surface. Four fire trucks were deployed, and the crews quickly began hosing down the tanker.

The truck driver, Pairee Thapianthu, 38, told police he was delivering eight tonnes of LPG from Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district to customers at Suranaree Industrial Estate in Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima. He had lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. He escaped unhurt.

Police believed the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The tanker belongs to SC Group.

Around 12.30pm, a crane arrived to lift the overturned truck upright and clear the road, which was closed for a one-kilometre radius for about 20 minutes during the operation. Normal traffic resumed.
