Taiwanese accused of cat torture

Police yesterday arrested a Taiwanese man for allegedly torturing cats in the Inthamara area of Bangkok.

Ning Liu, 34, was arrested by Sutthisan police in Inthamara Soi 47 after an arrest warrant was approved by the Criminal Court based on CCTV footage.

Police found a female black cat tethered in a toilet in his house with a wound on its leg. Several photos of cats being tortured were found in his smartphone.

Neighbour Sunantha Numcharoenwut, 56, saw a man pulling an unconscious cat along the street at 4am on Aug 19 but did not dare do anything.

On Tuesday, a neighbour told her that she saw a man pick up Ms Sunantha's cat and place it in a bag, so Ms Sunantha checked CCTV footage and found the man was the same one she saw on Aug 19. She then contacted police.

Mr Liu denied all allegations and said he often picked up cats suffering with wounds or illness to help cure them.
