Runoff inundates 1,000 rai of farmland in N. Sawan

NAKHON SAWAN - Runoff triggered by days of heavy rain has inundated at least 1,000 rai of agricultural land in three districts of this northern province.

Brimming irrigation canals burst their banks in Lat Yao district. A section of the Nong Ben-Lat Yao road in tambon Nong Nom Wua and Nong Kradook Nua was flooded on Tuesday, with water about 20cm deep. Many houses in the two tambons were flooded. Hundreds of rai of farmland in low-lying areas was turned into a large swamp as floodwater overran crops.

Runoff from mountains in the Mae Wong national park surged into tambon Nong Kradon in Muang district and other communities in Banphot Phisai district. At least 1,000 rai of cassava crops and rice fields have been ravaged by flooding.

Sandbag walls were built at several locations in tambon Nong Kradon to prevent further flooding.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, flood-hit residents in Phimai district on Tuesday started cleaning up their houses as the water receded.

At least 30 households in tambon Rangkayai of this district were inundated when the Ban Nong Thon reservoir overflowed on Monday.
