Chiang Mai's Zika cases rise to 11

The number of Zika patients in San Sai district, Chiang Mai, rose to 11 with two latest patients being pregnant women including a Myanmar one, both without a fever.

Disease control officials in the northern province of Chiang Mai stated on Monday that the Zika tests on the last two patients were confirmed positive on Saturday.

One of them is a Thai who is six-months pregnant in tambon San Sai Luang. She had rashes but no fever. Her family members initially thought she was allergic to cat hair.

The other is a Myanmar woman aged 26 who is eight months pregnant. She lived in a rented room in same tambon and had arrived there about a month ago. She developed no rashes but had a neck pain for 20 days.

Health officials first detected Zika cases in the district from June 19. The first two were from Phetchabun province.

San Sai officials started testing all local pregnant women and people with symptoms on June 19. Since then, they have checked 427 people, 332 of whom were pregnant, and found 11 Zika cases.

Officials were actively eliminating mosquitoes and larvae in the district to contain the disease.
