NAKHON RATCHASIMA - With the rubber floor rug stuck under the brake pedal, the driver of a taxi was unable to stop his vehicle, ramming into a roadside grocery shop in Muang district on Sunday, slightly injuring two people.

The accident occurred at about 7am while Chatchawal Chokchai, 72, was driving the taxi from home to begin his daily routine.

While turning left from a soi, Mr Chatchawal said his right foot happened to drag the rubber mat under the brake pedal. When he stepped on the brake, he was unable to stop the taxi which suddenly skidded off Mukhamontree road, rammed into the grocery shop and came to a halt after damaging a refrigerator, tables, chairs, shelves and items on display.

A cat, which belonged to the shop owner, was killed and two clients were slightly injured.
