The City Administration has installed 15 propeller pumps at four spots in Khlong Prem Prachakorn to accelerate the drainage of water from Don Muang area via the canal, deputy governor Amorn Kijchavengkul said on Tuesday.

Mr Amorn said the  floodwater in Don Muang area was 1.50 metres or more deep and it had to be drained out via Khlong Prem Prachakorn.

Since the canal is 22 kilometres long, 15 axial-flow pumps had been installed at four spots along it to acelerate the flow of water. With the help of the pumps, water could be discharged at 7 million cubic metres per day.

If there is no more rain or run-off from other areas, water in the Don Muang area would be completely drained in three days, he said.

Pathum Thani governor Surachai Khan-asa, led provincial authorities to inspect the Chulalongkorn watergate in Thanyaburi district on Tuesday morning after the heavy rain.

Mr Surachai said 24 water pumps, 12 with the capacity to drain 6 cubic metres of water per second and 12 at 3 cubic metres per second, had been installed at Chulalongkorn watergate.

The governor expressed concern over two housing estates -- Muang Ake and White House in Rangsit area -- which are situated in low-lying areas and prone to flooding.
