Police have seized a total of 558 fake credit cards from three men from Niger at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The three are identified as Yahaya Mahamadou Salao, 24, Maman Nalam Abdou, 55, and Halirou Abdoul Kadre, 44.

Pol Col Nitithorn Jintakanon, deputy commander of the Tourist Police Division, said officials were acting on a tip-off that foreign criminals would arrive at the airport with illegal electronic cards from Guangzhou, China.

Officials arrested the first suspect, Mr Salao, at the "Nothing to Declare" channel on the second floor of the passenger building after an x-ray revealed suspicious illegal items in his luggage. A search found 269 fake credit cards hidden in his bag. Mr Salao had disembarked from SriLankan Airlines flight UL883 at 9pm on Tuesday night.

The other two suspects were apprehended at the same spot after they travelled together on Shenzhen Airlines flight ZH9031 at 2am on Wednesday. Officials seized 223 bogus cards from Mr Abdou and 66 from Mr Halirou.

The Nigeriens claimed their relatives had given the cards to them to buy goods in Thailand, Pol Col Nitithorn said.
