RATCHABURI: A teenager was killed after he rode his motorbike past a railway crossing barrier and was struck by a train on Saturday morning.

Ban Pong police were alerted about the incident around 10.30am and rushed to the scene along with a doctor and rescue workers. They found the youth's body 15 metres from the crossing in Ban Don Salao in tambon Tha Pa. He was later identified as Jessada Meeyai, 15, a student at Sammaki Kunupathem in Ban Pong district.

Parts from his motorcycle were found scattered along the track while the main body of the bike was stuck to the train that had stopped 500 metres away.

The train was travelling from Thon Buri station in Bangkok to Nam Tok in Kanchanaburi when the accident occurred.

An investigation found that Jessada was returning from a trip to the market when he drove his motorbike past the automatic barrier and was struck by the fast-moving train.
