Privy Council president Gen Prem Tinsulanonda has urged Thais to join hands in fighting corruption as cheats have tried new tactics to rob the country.
In a speech on corruption at the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce, Gen Prem said on Friday that in his view corruption meant robbing the country as it threw the nation into a disaster. Adults must be the role model for children by steering clear of graft.
He urged Thais to do away with the attitude that fighting corruption was none of their business. Such a mindset was an obstacle to fighting graft.
All Thais were duty-bound to pay back their motherland by fighting corruption, said the statesman, adding cheats have tried several new tactics to rob the nation.
“We have no yardstick to measure cheating or cooperation, but there are some indicators of shame or people's cooperation -- whether they are stable or worse than before. We must do away with the thoughts that cheats have nothing to do with us or why should we put ourselves in trouble [by reporting them]. Such thoughts are a major problem,’’ said Gen Prem.
