Bhutanese royalty pay their respects at the Grand Palace

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan paid respects to His Majesty the King at the Grand Palace Sunday.

They arrived at the Grand Palace with their son at 9.48am and were greeted on arrival by a large number of people. The king and queen left at 10.17am.

"To the incomparable, visionary and most precious jewel King, the King of Thailand, who attained parinirvana, I would like to offer my deepest respect, and my heartfelt prayers. May Your Majesty always be born as Dharma Raja, to the benefit of all sentient beings," he wrote in a message posted on his Facebook account Sunday.

The king and queen arrived in Thailand on Saturday night to pay tribute to the late Thai King.

The Bhutanese king and the royal family led a group of clergy, senior government officials and members of the Thai community from Bhutan in offering a thousand butter lamps and prayers in memory of the Thai King at the Kuenra of the Tashichhodzong in Thimpu on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent a cable of condolences to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn on the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"We have been informed of the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. I send to you, on behalf of the people and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in my name, deep condolences and sincere consolation to you, with best regards," the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper quoted the message.

The King of Malaysia, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, also conveyed his condolences over the passing of His Majesty, news agency Bernama reported.
