The Thai ambassador to Australia called out producers of the weekly TV show, Have You Been Paying Attention? and asked for removal of portions dealing with Thailand.

Chirachai Punkrasin, the ambassador to Canberra, wrote to Network Ten's Sydney headquarters complaining about a part of the show that apparently dealt with the death of King Bhumibol.

Have You Been Paying Attention? is a comical satire on the week's news. The latest show was broadcast on Monday evening, and is not available online.

Neither the ambassador nor the show's website provided any details of the segment.

The ambassador's short letter said Monday's segment on Thailand was a case of "mocking people who are feeling intense grief" and said it was "very inappropriate, disrespectful and certainly not amusing".

"While it may not be the intention of the Network Ten to cause offense, [sic] the programme needs to show greater cultural sensitivity and media professionalism when it deals with a topic that makes reference to another country, institution and culture.

"I count on your understanding and your cooperation in removing the inappropriate segment on Thailand in the above-mentioned programme from your future diffusion programme as well as other social media channels."

The network's reply and response to the demand, if any, are unknown.
