Australia’s TV Channel 10 network has apologised for what was seen as inappropriate content in a weekly TV show and will edit it out for future showing, as requested by the Thai ambassador.

Chirachai Punkrasin, the Thai ambassador to Canberra contacted producers of the weekly TV show Have You Been Paying Attention? and asked for removal of portions dealing with Thailand. He said it was  "very inappropriate, disrespectful, and certainly not amusing", Australian media reported online.

The weekly comedy-quiz programme challenges a panel of comedians and entertainers to remember the events of the week.

Paul Anderson, chief executive officer of Network Ten, on Wednesday wrote to the ambassador, offering an apology and the company's deepest condolences to the Thai Royal Family and people of Thailand on the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"In no way was any disrespect intended and we sincerely regret any distress caused," a Ten spokesman said, the Sydney Morning Herald Online reported.

"The video has been taken down from Ten's website and other social channels, and will be edited to remove this segment, prior to the episode being broadcast or made available again."

In a tweet on Tuesday evening, <i>Have You Been Paying Attention?</i>'s producers also publicly apologised for the slight and said it would cease to air that particular segment in repeat episodes.
