The international community recognised the late King's development initiatives that benefited about 20 countries, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said in his speech marking the United Nations Day on Monday.

Apart from recognising the importance of the UN, Gen Prayut said countries were aware of the King's development capabilities and many nations praised him for being a true leader.

About 20 countries had implemented the development guidelines of the King and many that applied the King's sufficiency economy principles expressed gratitude for Thailand. They included Afghanistan, Bhutan, Indonesia, Laos, Lesotho, Nicaragua, East Timor, and Zimbabwe, the prime minister said.

Thailand is therefore proud of sharing the good guidelines internationally, he said.

Gen Prayut also mentioned that the 193-member UN General Assembly held a moment of silence and expressed condolences on the passing of the King on Oct 13.

The prime minister also said that the international community recognised Thailand's roles in supporting the work of the UN for more than 40 years. He cited the country's care for more than 1 million refugees for humanitarian reasons.

Thailand was determined to support the UN's tasks in sustainable development, resolution of international conflicts, the promotion of human rights, and economic and social development, he said.
