Scramble for 'Trump' holy cloth in Nakhon Si Thammarat

Disciples packed a temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Sunday in a scramble for holy cloth including one reportedly sent to Donald Trump by Phra Prommangkalachan.

The purple talisman given to US president-elect Donald Trump months before the election is given out to disciples of Chao Khun Thongchai in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Sunday.

Many people flocked to Wat Khokphotsatit in Lan Saka district in the southern province after learning that the assistant abbot of Wat Trai Mit Witthayaram would give out two types of talisman, one of them the same as sent to Mr Trump.

The monk, better known as Chao Khun Thongchai, gave the pha yan to his followers after chairing a Kathin ceremony at the temple.

The 'Trump' version is in purple with letters in English saying "change, innovation, idealism, freedom".

The monk's popularity soared when he predicted the Thai-owned Leicester City football club would be the English Premier League champion in the 2015-2016 season. The team finally won the championship for the first time in its history.

He also forecast victory for the Republican presidential candidate, and the billionaire-turned-president upset almost all polls to beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton on Wednesday.

Chao Khun Thongchai reportedly gave a pha yan to Mr Trump through Thathani Siriyiam, a Thai in Bangkok who supported him and knew him from the 2004 Miss Universe pageant in Ecuador. The talisman was sent to him in August.
