No Thai people have been reported injured by the two large earthquakes that hit the South Island of New Zealand, according a Foreign Ministry's Twitter message posted on Monday morning.

The ministry has advised Thais living in the  earthquake area to keep abreast of information and advice from the local authorities.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed two people and damaged buildings along the east coast of the South Island  on Sunday.  A strong second quake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck the same area on Monday morning, the US Geological Survey said.

Those in need of assistance from the Foreign Ministry can contact the Consular Affairs Department on telephone number 0-2572-8422 around the clock or the Thai embassy in Wellington on hotline +64021896292.
