Phitsanulok: Police have issued a summons for a man captured in a video clip beating up his five-year-old stepson at a school in Muang district.

The 25-year-old mother, who asked not to be named, lodged a complaint on Wednesday with district police against her husband, Somsak Sahaisuk, 28, after the video clip was shared and she saw it by accident.

The one-minute clip shows the boy standing close to his stepfather's motorcycle in the school's car park. The man then hits the boy, who falls to the ground. Then the man stomps on the child. Witnesses then intervened and stopped the man.

The man fled to Bangkok after the incident.

The mother said the boy was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate and has learning disabilities.

The incident was captured on Tuesday evening by a CCTV camera.

"His violent behaviour is so painful to watch," the mother said.

Songpol Sangkasem, head of Muang district police, said Mr Somsak has been summoned for questioning. If he does not show up, police will seek a warrant for his arrest.

Suwekee Sriwanthanasakul, a psychologist from the provincial youth family and community service centre, went to the woman's house to interview her and the boy.

The mother told him the boy was from her previous marriage. She has been living with the man who beat up the boy and together they have a two-year-old son.

The woman said she usually takes the boy to school in the morning and her husband picks him up in the afternoon.

Social workers on Thursday, led by Thanin Somboonsan, took the mother and son to Naresuan University Hospital where tests confirmed the boy suffered knee and head injuries.
